Meet Isabel Smith, one of our amazing returning interns on staff at the Van Every/Smith Galleries!

Isabel is a Junior at Davidson College from St. Augustine, Florida. Isabel is currently studying English and Gender and Sexuality Studies and studied abroad in Amsterdam, Netherlands this past semester.

Learn more about Isabel:

While you were abroad, did you see a certain piece of art or museum exhibition that inspired you? Why?

“I loved the Van Gogh Musuem! It houses so much of his work (as well as some work from his contemporaries) and talks about mental health struggles in a beautiful, respectful, and poignant way (‘schilderen ondanks alles’ / painting against all odds <3).”

Is there anything from your abroad experience that you would like to apply to your time at the art galleries this semester?

“The sense of community in Amsterdam was very heartwarming; there was support for each other and reliance on each other, especially in queer and artistic spaces. I look forward to working and collaborating with everyone involved with the galleries!”

What are you most excited to do this semester in the art gallery (or in art in general)?

“Senior exhibitions! It’s always so wonderful to see what senior art majors come up with (and to be a part of their exhibitions).”

Feel free to come chat with Isabel or any of our other interns Monday-Friday from 10-5pm and Saturday-Sunday from 12-4pm.
