Meet Caroline Sillars, one of our amazing returning interns on staff at the Van Every/Smith Galleries!

Caroline is a Junior at Davidson College from New Orleans, Louisiana. Caroline is currently studying Art History, and studied abroad in Vienna, Austria this past semester.

Learn more about Caroline:

While you were abroad, did you see a certain piece of art or museum exhibition that inspired you? Why?

“Bernini, Rape of Proserpina, Borghese Gallery, Rome The insane amount of realism in the marble was so unreal. You can really see how Bernini studied the human form. It was so impressive that he was able to create such a lifelike piece from a single block.”

Is there anything from your abroad experience that you would like to apply to your time at the art galleries this semester?

“I took a museum studies course while abroad, which peaked my interest in educational programming as it relates to art. I would love to get more involved with student outreach this semester.”

What are you most excited to do this semester in the art gallery (or in art in general)?

“I’m excited to meet with artists in person again, and to see the senior shows!”

Feel free to come chat with Caroline or any of our other interns Monday-Friday from 10-5pm and Saturday-Sunday from 12-4pm.
