New Intern Introduction – Isabel Walter

Isabel Walter '24

Name and hometown?
I go by Isabel, but my friends call me Izzy too. I am from about 30 minutes from Davidson just west of Charlotte.

Class year and major/minor?
I am a first-year planning on majoring in Math, but I am deciding between a Data Sciences, Economics, or Communication Studies minor.

Did you do anything this summer or during quarantine related to the arts?
This summer I did art in the form of creative writing and making several paintings to hang on the walls of my dorm here.

Why were you interested in interning with the galleries?
I have always loved art, but I was particularly attracted to the tasks where we get to interact with visitors, learn more about the pieces, and help update the archives in the gallery database.

What role does art play in your life as a Davidson student? Do you see art playing a role in your life post-Davidson?
Honestly, I wish I had more time for art here at Davidson. I love seeing it around campus in the buildings but sadly, time does not always allow for my own artistic outlets. Hopefully I will make more time to do art in the future.

Favorite sculpture on campus and why?
I like Wind Sculpture (SG) I by Yinka Shonibare in front of the E. Craig Wall Jr. Academic Center. I always pass it on my way to class and see it from a different perspective each time.

Hobbies?
In my free time I like to garden, do musical theatre, and dance. I also am part of the Davidson Singers and can often be found hanging out with my friends.

Little known fact about you?
A little known fact about me is that my favorite animals are red-eyed tree frogs, but I also like frogs in general.

If you could have a meal with anyone dead or alive who would it be and why?
I would like to have lunch with Taylor Swift because I have loved her music for many years, and I like how she is trying to use her platform to help others now.
