Im:mutableRebecca Cobo '21 On View: April 3-11, 2021 (Galleries will be closed April 7 & 8) I am a queer artist. To describe myself and my work as such is an act of reclaiming a once and still derogatory word. It calls into question how the experiences of queer people have changed with time and where I fit into this narrative. The loss of connection and nostalgia I feel towards unknown people of the past led me to explore gender and sexuality in its most beautiful moments and brutal realities. I’ve worked with my partner to create characters and storylines that...

Go On, Git!Landin Eldridge '21 On View: March 26-31, 2021 My drawings depict absurd encounters from everyday life. I force characters to confront uncomfortable scenarios: guilt from the past, fear of the future, and humor in the present. It is almost impossible not to laugh because this combination is ridiculous and awkward. I want to capture the exact moment a good thing goes bad, extracting ideas from my memories and hinting at larger American institutions and cultural phenomena. Spanish 102 Gallery Visit

This was a great opportunity for a COVID-safe interdisciplinary activity that connected themes of art, Spanish language, and current events. Below are some of their anonymous insights, translated into English. Psychology 101 Culture Points: Connecting Social Science to the Arts
This past fall semester, Psychology professor Dr. Greta Munger brought her General Psychology (PSY 101) students to visit the exhibition From Pandemic to Protests in the Van Every Gallery. Dr. Munger hoped this visit might provide inspiration for one of three “culture points” she prompted students to write throughout the semester. The aim of these short essays was to have students explore the relationship between Psychology and the arts. Dr. Munger encouraged students to attend a concert, visit a museum, or go to a dance, poetry, or theater performance. She asked her students to then write two paragraphs: one that...
