Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum: ab initio

Monday, August 26 – Friday, October 11, 2013

During a three-week residency, Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum will create a site-specific installation, including a series of works on paper as well as drawings done directly on the gallery walls. Through wall-drawings and projected animations, Sunstrum will create a multi-dimensional and multi-media “landscape” within the Van Every Gallery. While much of Sunstrum’s previous works uses characters, alter egos, and heroes to tell stories, the work presented in ab initio will create a narrative through landscape alone.

Sunstrum will be in residence August 26–September 11, 2013. Stop in to watch the installation evolve. The artist will present a brief gallery talk at 7:30 p.m. during the opening reception on Thursday, September 12, 2013. The reception, which is open to the public from 6:30–8:30pm, is sponsored by the Davidson College Friends of the Arts. The exhibition will be on view in the Van Every Gallery of the Belk Visual Arts Center September 12–October 11, 2013.

The exhibition and residency are made possible through the generous support of the Davidson College Bacca Foundation Visiting Lecture and Artist Program.
