2016 Annual Student Art Exhibition

April 21 – May 4, 2016


The Van Every/Smith Galleries and the Davidson College Art Department will present the Annual Student Juried Exhibition from Thursday, April 21 – Wednesday, May 4, 2016 in the Van Every Gallery. The opening reception will take place on Wednesday, April 20 from 7-9pm, with the awards presentation at 7:30pm.

The Annual Student Juried Exhibition highlights works produced during the academic year by both art majors and non art-majors at Davidson College. Works on view have been selected by the studio art faculty. Awards will be selected and presented by guest juror Jennifer Edwards, Curator at Charlotte’s own Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, on the evening of the opening.

Edwards recently moved to Charlotte from Los Angeles to step into her role as Curator of the Bechtler. She received her BA from New York University in 1992 and MA at Hunter College/CUNY in 2004 with high honors. In 2014, she received her Ph.D. from the Institute of Fine Arts, NYU after spending two years travelling around Europe examining works by Niki de Saint Phalle, the topic of her dissertation. While pursuing her Ph.D., Edwards was also curator at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, as well as at Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, California.
